Paul L. Marshall

The Collective, Producer, Instructor | United States

Professional Drummer, Instructor & Engineer Paul L. Marshall was raised in SW Florida by way of Hartford, CT. Moving to the area with his parents at the ripe age of 10, and already having banged away on a drum pad (and untold amounts of Tupperware) for 3 years, he obtained his first drum set in January 1990, dedicating every spare moment to practice and improving. Paul recalls; “That was it- Everything else paled in comparison. Everything became about Drums and Music, I was completely immersed”.  He began his Private lessons in July of that same year with Master Percussionist, Brad Sharo.

Moving forward, Paul played numerous shows (Talent Shows/Competitions, and a weekly sit in with area bands) and School concerts throughout Junior High and High School- as part of the Wind Ensembles, Symphonic Bands, Jazz Bands, And Marching in the celebrated Cape Coral High School Seahawk Drum Line, having the responsibilities of Drum Line Captain 2 of his 4 years. Paul simultaneously studied under renowned Session drummer/Marching Instructor, Billy Canty.

Over his High School Years, Placing High Drums in State competitions with the DrumLine, and achieving consistent ratings of “Excellent” and “Superior” in FBA Solo Review, - the music continued to grow. Paul founded his first band “Symphonic Indulgence” with High School friends, playing the usual array of Talent shows and Birthday Party Gigs,  and was invited to play the 3rd Set every Friday night at the Big Still Lounge with Morris Workman and the Blue Collar Band by 15 years old. The immersion grew deeper…

After High School, Paul took the next step, Auditioning and making the Drum Line of the Suncoast Sound Drum and Bugle Corps. Out of Orlando FL. In August of 1997. Unfortunately, the Corps. Disbanded a few short months later due to finances.

Paul continued to learn and apply, and after leaving the Corps returned to the area and began to invest time into several local working and recording bands, including 4 Dog Pile Up (original and cover), the Blues Babies (original and cover), and numerous studio sessions/ projects in which "I would travel for who knows how long in this beat up Pontiac station wagon to get studio and live playing experience.” “I also learned how to network, and, put in the work” recalls Paul. “You know, back in the days of cassette tape demos, handwriting your mailers, and making and posting flyers. No Social Media, No YouTube,  Just You-Do”, adds Paul.

After Years of playing several gigs per week, Various recording sessions with bands and artists, and simultaneously teaching drums to students of all ages, Paul became a recognized and sought after Session and Live Drummer.

Over the last 25 years in the industry, Paul has also gained experience working as a back line technician , Drum Tech, Live Sound and Studio Engineer, including working with dozens of Artists in his own, Independently owned Commercial Recording Studio from 2010 to it’s closing in 2017.
