KickStrap was founded in the 1990s by drummer Gary Benson, who was performing in a variety of venues across Los Angeles. From intimate bars to large concert halls, Gary often encountered a recurring issue: either his bass drum would slide on the carpet, or he’d be stuck playing a house drum kit with unreliable spurs. One night, in a pinch, Gary improvised by using a coat hanger from his gig shirt to secure his bass drum pedal to his throne, effectively solving the problem. Inspired by this simple solution, he set out to create a more refined, portable version that would fit easily into a stick bag and work with any kick drum, hi-hat, or auxiliary pedal. After numerous prototypes and refinements, KickStrap was born. Today, KickStrap has grown into a brand known for its innovative drum products, designed to improve performance and convenience for drummers everywhere.
